Freedom's Gambit at Children of Promise,
Brooklyn + The Bronx, NYC

Children of Promise (CPNYC) has locations in Bed-Stuy and The West Bronx, collectively serving over 1,500 young people with its after-school and summer programs. In March 2024, Children of Promise received a $2 million grant from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott's Yield Giving Open Call.

 

Freedom's Gambit is dedicated to sharing the game of chess with children impacted by mass incarceration. Through our chess classes, we aim to spark curiosity, foster critical thinking, and build meaningful connections. With over 40 sessions taught so far, we actively engage students aged 8 to 12, helping them develop valuable skills and find joy in the game. As we expand our volunteer network and plan for future growth, we remain committed to making a positive difference in the lives of these children.
