OUR MISSION

Our mission is to share our passion and knowledge of the game of chess with children whose families have been affected by mass incarceration, and whom we believe chess has the potential to impact deeply. Through chess, we are hoping to create a difference, however big or small, in their lives. It is our goal to deliver the experiences all chess players strive for: to spark curiosity and wonder, nurture human connections, and help develop critical thinking skills.

What We Do

By instituting our chess programs across New York City, Freedom’s Gambit builds bonds across and within communities. We teach students of all skill levels who are willing to learn and improve from our highly accomplished and talented staff, who are committed to replicating their chess learning experience for others. Currently, Freedom’s Gambit has partnered with Children of Promise to create opportunities and a brighter future through our chess program that inspires children affected by mass incarceration to find a safe and welcoming environment at the chess board.
